I caught these two love birds in our yard on Saturday. They sat on top of the flower bowl for quite awhile and posed for many pictures. It was such a beautiful weekend to be in the garden. Thank God Spring is finally Here !!

Flowers and Friendships Continue to Bloom Year after Year !

This rose produces a beautiful array of blooms every year and never fails me, just like my friendship with my two special friends Carey and Wendy. This weekend we had a wonderful time on a girls trip to McKinney, TX, great shops, great food, lots of laughter and wonderful memories. When I got back home I found this lovely rose blooming in my back yard.

I am so thankful for Flowers and Friendships that continue to Bloom Year after Year !!

Love you guys very much !! and thank you Chrysler Imperial Pink Rose !! What a perfect weekend !

Amazing Door on our Garden Tour

This beautiful door embraced the entryway of a very exquisite garden at the first home on the White Rock East Garden Tour. The grounds were vast, peaceful and green around the small quaint two-story home. The upstairs window of the home looked out onto the large round fountain.

As we followed the garden path we came upon the most beautiful fireplace and outside seating area. The fireplace was hand carved with angel wings.

This garden was definitely one of the highlights of our tour. Thank you to the owner for sharing his garden with us.

Flashback – Then and Now

As we prepare for spring it is a great time to flashback and look at the evolution of the garden over the past almost 6 years. Our garden has evolved into an inspiration for neighbors and friends who ask us for help in building their own gardens. Paul plans to build a different trellis for the sweet autumn clematis across the archway so it does not get so unruly. We also talked about building a courtyard and an arched doorway that would enclose the front of the house. The courtyard would be very unique to this area as it is truly Californian. I love the mystery of a courtyard with a big beautiful garden gate which leaves you to wonder what is growing behind it. Do you think that would go over in Texas?

Flashback – “Then and Now”

Every so often we need to go back and look at our progress at PB Garden. So from time to time I will post Flashback – “Then and Now”.

Paul transformed our ordinary back porch into a Key West Get get-away (inspired by a pub in the Keys called “Grunts”) which we stopped at on our trip with Kevon and Debbie. So now, everyone can stop by Grunts anytime for a little bit of Key West right here in Bedford at PB Garden !!

Time In a Bottle

We had a wonderful weekend at PB Garden. Saturday I did some Italian cooking with a new recipe by Giada and also baked apple crisp with the apples I brought back from Maine. Jennifer spent the weekend with us and we just love when she is here.

I had not been in the garden in two weeks and I spent most of Sunday pruning and designing some new pots while Paul cleaned the garage and Jennifer went to an art gallery in Fort Worth. Everything is still in bloom and the arbors look lovely. There is so much I want to do and learn about growing roses and perennials but I just run out of time. So today I was thinking back on the lyrics from Jim Croce’s song which had no meaning at the time, but now I can fully related to the message he was sending back in 1972.

If I could put Time in a Bottle…. The first thing that I’d like to do is to spend everyday like a treasure……… “But there never seems to be enough time………To do the things you want to do………Once you find them”

I would love to bottle up all these weekends and spend them over and over again, with Paul, Jennifer, Brian, Rachael, John Paul, our parents, our family and our friends and that is what I plan to do for a long time to come. One thing I have learned lately is each day is a gift and we must treasure every moment . So today join us in PB Garden for some beautiful Knock Out Roses as well as the “unknown $5 rose” from end of the season sale table last year, with an exquisite smell. By the way Paul and I were looking for lizards and found that our door looked great from the other side of the fence too. Come on in !!!

Lizzie Lane – Almost Done

Today Paul put the final coat on the stain and the paint. The latterns we found were perfect. The next thing we are going to do is design the landscape.

It’s Saturday and Paul is working on the door to Lizzie Lane. The frosted windows on the door are very interesting but we thought it shut off the area and took away from the the open concept of the garden rooms.

So we are trying to decide if we should leave the bottom two windows in the door or take them out for a full view. Can you help us decide what you think? Here are a couple shots: (click on picture for larger view)

Lizzie Lane Update

Paul worked on the door to Lizzie Lane yesterday in between football games. Paul was glad to have Dad’s tools, as he used the router to do some of the work and the saw to cut the boards. The squirrels already love to use the top of the door to get across to the fence. We went shopping and found the perfect lanterns for each side and next we are going to stain and paint the door red. Then we will knock out the windows so it will be a natural window looking into the side garden. The tools are put away now until next weekend because everybody is “working for the weekend” including P and B. Check in next week for more updates.
