Texas Gold Columbine

It was so lovely to sit in the shade garden today after work. Our Texas Gold Columbine is in full bloom and I love the unusual shape of the full flower, just exquisite. Texas Gold Columbine is a perennial and of course native to Texas. It does best in shade to part sun and blooms in the spring. It grows to about 2 feet by 2 feet. The leaves are soft and light green.

Camellia Buds Ready to Burst into Bloom

Our Red Kramer Camellia is full of buds. Red camellias are a symbol of wealth and so they are rightly grown in P&B’s Garden. Some history I found on Monrovia’s website lists that camellias represent longevity and faithfulness and have long been a primary floral component in Asian weddings. I cannot wait until next week to post the flower in full bloom.

Where Has Paul Been This Summer?

Many of you have called Paul to play golf or go out on your boat, or just hang out this summer and heard him say …. “I am sorry, I can’t go….. I am working on my yard project”. This did not sound like Paul to you….and I am sure you wondered what was going on. Paul worked a small miracle this summer and cleaned up a giant mess. I think he is brillant !!

It has been almost four months since demolition started in our shade garden. Our go green project, as you know, was devastating, as our contractor did not deliver on what was promised. We lost our drainage system, sprinkler system and shade garden.

Paul came to my rescue and re-designed and re-installed a drainage system and the new shade garden. He spent every weekend this summer digging and wheeling wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of good dirt, filler dirt and mulch back into the shade garden. We have now replanted almost all the plants that were moved into the temporary garden last April

Today, the hostas loved the rain and their blooms are just as exquisite as ever. I have missed my shade garden and am so happy to have it almost back to normal.

Azaleas – A sure sign of spring

I love the color that my azaleas give to my front flower bed. This bush blooms three times a year and as you can see gives you the most beautiful blooms. I planted mine in the front bed because they need morning sun at least 4 hours which is more than traditional azaleas. Encore is truly the best to buy and their website http://www.encoreazalea.com/encore/stat_collection.cfmis is the best resource for finding the azalea that you want for your yard since there are 23 varieties to choose from. Pictured below is Autumn Carnation.

I love my flower pot sprinklers

Every night after work I would to go out and water all my flower pots. It took almost an hour, it was hot and I was eaten alive by mosquitos. We installed an automatic watering system in all my flower pots. Now all my flower pots are watered “while I am sleeping” — what a time saver for me. My flowers also love being watered regularly with the right amount of water and during the cool of the evening. During the winter it helped my potted perennials to keep moist and have a better chance this spring. With all this time I am saving I will have no excuse not to go to the gym and workout to work out !! Thank you Keith.

Special Visitor to PB Garden

We had a special visitor today at PB Garden. Hannah came by to see us and immediately put on her gardening hat ready to water the Camellias and Pansies that were blooming. What a special day it was for me to see Hannah, Olivia Paul and Deepa. Remember Hannah, say hello to Nana Joy for me.

Jack visits PB Garden

Hi Jack !!!

Jack had a seat in the asparagus fern and kept a careful watch over the trick or treaters this Halloween. Jack looks very stressed out this year even though there were only three trick or treaters. I was in charge of the door so I made the entry spooky yet delightful for the kids that came for a treat. Our kids were off to parties or hanging out with friends around town, so it was just P&B at home.

The next morning we looked out at Jack and he looked better and relieved that the night had passed, no more trick or treaters !!! and no work until next year. Bye Jack, see you in 2009.

What a morning at P&B’s Garden

I am so glad it is Saturday. I had my coffee and read a new garden magazine in the shade garden. Earlier last month the hostas were still in bloom and breathtaking. This morning our red banana was reaching up towards the oak tree with tropical elegance, surrounded by holly fern, sweet potato vine and inpatients. I love our garden I am so glad you get to visit it too on our blog. Thanks again Jennifer and Brian, what a great idea !!
