This has been a very hot summer. Tomorrow it will be September 1st and it is still in the 90’s. Our Lord Baltimore Hibiscus was beautiful this year. It bloomed over and over again with huge blooms of red color making our yard a tropical paradise. It was fun to float around in the pool, the few times that we stopped to do so, and watch the large blooms look down at us.

So beautiful.

Everything in the garden looks really droopy after 18 days of 100 degree weather……..

….even Paul is looking kind of droopy and is probably thinking about going in for a beer and watching some golf….

……but this lovely David Austin Rose was still holding its own…….Lovely and Amazing !!

Despite the heat our garden continues to amaze us. We tried a new plant called “Obedient” and this bee really seemed to enjoy the nectar of the flower.

The heat is stressing out the garden, but soon cooler temperatures will roll in, after all the Cowboys are on tonight so Fall is just around the corner. We just keep asking ourselves where did this year go?

Beautiful Butterflies in the Garden

This weekend our garden was in full bloom and busy with bees, butterflies, birds, lizards and blooms.

Can you see the butterfly on the tree trunk in the picture below?

This butterfly flew all around the garden today. It was beautiful.

Bird of Paradise

Last year we planted our bird of paradise by the mailbox. We hoped that it would survive our coldest winter ever and it has certainly surprised us with a flurry of repeat blooms this summer. It is hard to believe that such a delicate leaf and beautiful tropical flower can withstand freezing temperatures but we are sure glad that it did. A couple of people have stopped by to ask about this tropical beauty so we hope to see more popping up in the neighborhood.

Green Anoles

Paul’s favorite thing to do is walk around the garden and look for lizards. I decided to do a little research and found that our lizards are called Carolina anole (Anolis carolinensis) . They are found primarily in the southeastern US, some Carribbean islands and right here in Bedford, Texas at P & B’s Garden. It is also sometimes referred to as the American chameleon due to its color-changing abilities; however, it is not a true chameleon.

We always see the lizards extending out their neck and I found in my research that this is how they court the female.

Last summer I captured this shot on our sago palm. The lizard is molting.

According to the information I found Anoles turn dark when they are stressed out.

Paul sure loves the lizards, and I sure love Paul !
