Texas Gold Columbine

It was so lovely to sit in the shade garden today after work.  Our Texas Gold Columbine is in full bloom and I love the unusual shape of the full flower, just exquisite.  Texas Gold Columbine is a perennial and of course native to Texas.  It does best in shade to part sun and blooms in the spring.  It grows to about 2 feet by 2 feet.  The leaves are soft and light green.

For Uncle Oscar

We will miss you !!

California Poppy Day is April 6th

The California poppy (Eschscholzia californica) is the official flower of California and April 6th is designated as California Poppy Day.  I have many memories of poppies so I just had to grow them in P & B’s Garden.  One of my favorite childhood movies to watch with my Aunt Pat was the Wizard of Oz and I loved the part when Dorothy fell asleep in a poppy field.  I remember my Dad always had a poppy on his rear view mirror in honor of Veterans Day in Chicago and my favorite poppy memory was of Jennifer and I visiting the poppy fields in San Diego several years ago.

The garden center said that poppies do well in Texas and will come back each year.  They are early spring bloomers and I planted mine under our oak tree where they will get lots of sun before the spring leaves come back overhead.  Here are some of my poppies this year.

Happy California Poppy Day !!

Photography Lesson #2

Today I met Bruce Rosensteil of Small World Photos for my second photography lesson at the Botanical Gardens in Grapevine.  It was an overcast day so I learned about low lighting.  We also focused in on a waterfall and caught it in still motion and with movement.  It was a very fun lesson and I learned a lot.  Looking forward to my next class.

What A Perfect Day

I could not wait to get home today.  It was 70 degrees outside, the sun was shining and my garden was waiting for me.  The smiley face of this tulip caught my eye and I could not resist posting it tonight.  What a perfect day !!

Photography Lesson #1

When Paul and I got married we received a beautiful wedding card from Bobby and Lydia.   It was a photograph printed on card stock paper of two parrots kissing which was taken in the exotic country of Brazil.  The card was uniquely hand-made by Bruce Rosensteil of Small World Photos.  I put the card in my stack of things that I wanted to learn and this year it finally bubbled up to the top of my pile.  I am so glad it did.  I have come to find out that Bruce Rosensteil is an expert photographer who also gives photography lessons and grew up in My Kind of Town.

Today I had my first class at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens with Bruce and here are a couple of my favorites.
