I have always loved to write and had a lot of ideas. That was not the problem. The hard part for me was how long it took me to produce a polished page and if I felt good enough about it to publish it. Then shortly after retirement, I discovered ChatGPT and became fascinated with its editing capabilities. I started dropping in rough thoughts, half-written reflections, and scattered ideas just to see what it could do. The more I used it, the more interesting the process became to me, probably because alongside writing, I have always loved technology. That is why using ChatGPT reminded me so much of when the word processor first came out years ago. When I was 18 years old, my first job was typing the Sears catalog on a manual typewriter. Then the word processor arrived, and suddenly typing became faster, cleaner, more efficient, and far less frustrating. Just like AI feels for me today with my writing. To me, AI is not replacing creativity any more than a word processor replaced typing. These are my ideas, thoughts, and life experiences. It is simply another tool that helps people communicate their ideas more clearly, faster, and efficiently. It helps me organize my thoughts and finally get more of them out into the world instead of leaving them unfinished in my head, or quietly deciding they were never polished enough to share.
Gardeners do the same thing. We use drip irrigation, grow lights, soil amendments, and weather apps, not because they replace the gardener, but because they help the garden flourish.
And maybe that is the best part of this AI technology after all. Not replacing human voices…but helping more people feel brave enough to use them.
